BREAKING A HUNDRED: A CENTURY OF SAULT GOLF

By AMP TEAM

To a casual observer, Sault Ste. Marie Ontario is most often associated with nearby, glorious Lake Superior and northern Lake Huron, steel-making, hockey, a vibrant Italian heritage, and proximity to the US border. Its central Ontario location, and Trans-Canada Highway access contribute to the Sault’s reputation as a pleasant, livable regional centre – but the Sault has no serious status as a Canadian golf hotbed, or primary destination for vacation-minded golfers.

The local golf scene is active, and its membership is keen, but the sport has never made a
noticeable contribution to the Sault’s national identity.

In Breaking A Hundred: A Century of Sault Golf, accomplished golf writer Rick Parnham (long time Canadian Golf Journalists’ Association member), and award-winning Sault-based author Bryan Davies have completely deconstructed this conventional Sault golf community narrative, to present an intriguing, carefully researched history that reveals not only unique stories, and characters, but also tells the entire Sault city history from a unique perspective. Sault native, and Olympic champion curler Brad Jacobs contributes the book forward. In recognition of Team Jacobs wonderful work undertaken on behalf of the entire Sault community, Rick and Bryan are donating $5 from every book sold to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation, and its Team Jacobs’ charities.
